World Community Grid

World Community Grid is a platform established by the World Community Grid project that uses the power of volunteers' devices to conduct scientific research. The project aims to address world challenges ranging from health to environment by allowing researchers access to a vast network of connected devices, creating a supercomputer to process data.

By installing the World Community Grid software on their devices, volunteers are contributing to the work of researchers and helping to expand the global knowledge base. The collected data is used to identify potential treatments for diseases, develop sustainable solutions for environmental challenges, and aid in disaster response efforts.

World Community Grid has supported over 30 research projects since its inception, including initiatives to combat Zika, Ebola, HIV/AIDS, cancer and tuberculosis. In addition, it has been instrumental in contributing towards environmental sustainability efforts by utilizing devices’ processing power for climate modeling, renewable energy generation and engineered biology research.

Emphasizing its commitment to facilitate an open-source culture the organization makes sure that all results are available openly and free which attracts open science supporters and researchers alike. To date, more than 725,000 registered volunteers from 80 countries have contributed over one million years’ worth of computing time to the program.
